Core Competencies & Skills Valued By Employers

Writer's picture: John KarrasJohn Karras

Core competencies are the attributes and skills you possess. Many of them are what people call “soft skills.” The person conducting the interview will use these competencies to evaluate you in relation to other applicants. In fact, many interviewers will use the Behavioral-Based interview technique to investigate your core competencies for the position. So, it is important for you to not only be able to identify your core competencies for the position, but be able to prove that they are true by giving specific examples. For example, “Tell me about a time when you had to use your communication skills to solve a problem or achieve a goal.”
